Ural State Law University

Ural State Law University is one of the largest judicial training center in
Russia. The history of the Ural State Law University dates back to the first quarter
of the 20th century. The University was founded on September 15, 1918 by the
decision of the Council of Ministers of the Siberian Government as the faculty of
law as part of the Irkutsk State University.
By the decision of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee of April
20, 1931, the Siberian Institute of Soviet Law was established in Irkutsk, which in
1934 was transferred from Irkutsk to Sverdlovsk, and in 1935 it was renamed the
Sverdlovsk Law Institute, and later the Sverdlovsk Law Institute. Under this name
the university became known as one of the leading centers of legal education and
science in the USSR.


1960-1970 years became for the institute the time of dynamic development
in the training of scientific and pedagogical personnel, in the radical change and
improvement of scientific research work, improving the educational process and
expanding the material base.
On December 4, 1992 the institute was renamed the Ural State Law
Academy. The Academy managed to preserve and multiply the achievements of
the Soviet period and reach new development milestones. In April 2014 Ural State
Law Academy was renamed the Ural State Law University.
Today Ural State Law University continues to be one of the largest centers
in Russia for the development of legal science and the training of highly qualified
legal personnel. At present, the university unites the best traditions of classical
legal education and modern teaching technologies. At the moment about 10,000
students study at the university. The training of students is carried out by more
than 600 teachers, of which: 77 doctors of science, more than 300 candidates of
science, as well as honorable workers of higher professional education of the
Russian Federation, honored workers of science of the Russian Federation,
honored workers of the higher school of the Russian Federation, honored lawyers
of the Russian Federation. In the ratings of the universities of the Ministry of
Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the University constantly takes
prizes.
Ural State Law University is the organizer of traditional scientific and
methodical conferences: the All-Russian student scientific and practical conference
«The evolution of Russian law», the Ural forum of constitutionalists, the
Alekseevsky’s readings, the Days of international law, the Kovalevsky’s readings.
For several years the university has been the basic university of the All-Russian
open competition of student scientific works in jurisprudence conducted by the
Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. Since 2007, the
Association of lawyers of Russia has been holding the Eurasian law congress on
the basis of the Ural State Law Administration, which has become an authoritative
and internationally recognized forum for a broad exchange of views on the full
range of legal issues, for a comprehensive discussion of topical issues of legal
development of the entire Eurasian legal space.
